Wisdom Teeth Removal in Panania NSW – Safer, Faster and Easier

If you have been told that you need wisdom teeth removal, our Panania dentist in NSW is here to help. Many people fear wisdom tooth extraction, but the good news is that wisdom teeth removal can be carried out chairside, and in many cases is barely any different from a standard tooth extraction.

Wisdom tooth removal is one of our most common Panania oral surgeries and since our dentist has over 20 years’ experience rest assured you are in a safe pair of hands. We use the latest 3D x-ray technology, CBCT, to help plan the surgery without causing unnecessary damage to the adjacent structure.e for patients.

Why is wisdom teeth removal necessary?

Because wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to come through, most Panania patients already have a full set of teeth and there simply isn’t space in the mouth to accommodate them. As a result, they may come through at odd angles or in the wrong place or they may get stuck in the gums (impacted wisdom tooth), and the only course of action is wisdom tooth removal.

Without undergoing wisdom teeth removal you may find it hard to brush your teeth properly and this could lead to gum disease, infection, and tooth loss. Wisdom teeth that are jostling for position can also impact adjacent teeth causing misalignment.

Wisdom tooth extraction – the procedure

  • First, the area around the wisdom tooth is numbed with a local anaesthetic
  • Forceps are then gently used to widen the socket area
  • Next, the tooth is rocked backwards and forwards to ease it from the socket (in some cases the tooth may have to be removed in sections)
  • Usually, wisdom tooth removal takes no more than 20 minutes

After Wisdom Teeth Removal

Following wisdom tooth extraction, patients will be given care instructions. While some bleeding and swelling may be experienced, this isn’t always the case. You will, however, be asked to bite down on a piece of gauze for around 45 minutes so that a blood clot forms at the site. Some discomfort may be felt after wisdom tooth removal when the anaesthetic wears off, but over-the-counter painkillers should ease any symptoms. Patients normally feel back to normal within a couple of days.
